The program in Xai-Xai started in 2006 with the World Relief Tshembeka program. Volunteers involved in the program were trained on home based care for those affected by HIV/AIDS. The AfricaWorks Animal Husbandry program was introduced to provide a sustainable source of income for the volunteers that were taking care of HIV/AIDS orphan’s & sick people. The program started with 21 clients owning 7 chicken houses with the capacity of 200 to 250 chickens in each chicken house.
The current number of chicken houses increased to 14 and the number of volunteers that became clients increased to 42.
