Umpala
The association ‘Umpala’ started in 2008 with a group of 10 volunteers involved in the Tshembeka program were trained on home based care for those affected by HIV/AIDS. The AfricaWorks Animal Husbandry program was introduced to provide a sustainable source of income for the volunteers that were taking care of HIV/AIDS orphan’s & sick.
The program began with 5 chicken houses for which clients received input loans from Mozambique Farms, who ensured they had a secure market through them. The capacity of each chicken house is 1200 birds, owned by on average of 2 families each.

The program started in 2009 with a group of 10 volunteers in the same manner as did Umpala. They began by receiving input loans from Mozambique Farms, who also ensured they had a secure market with through them. This arrangement was changed slightly, having AfricaWorks directly providing the loans. AfricaWorks has standing agreements with specific companies ensuring secure markets for the clients.
The capacity of each chicken house is 1200 birds, owned by on average, 1 family.
Net work pastors association Against AIDS/HIV
The program started in 2009 with a group of 14 volunteers taking care of orphaned vulnerable children and the sick affected by HIV/AIDS. The AfricaWorks Animal Husbandry program was introduced in order to help these volunteers earn a sustainable income. Clients receive input loans directly from AfricaWorks and sell to abattoirs.
The capacity of each chicken house is 1200 birds, owned by on average, 1 family.
